Empowering Futures: Educating Children on Safe Migration Practices and Combating Human Trafficking
Migration involves individuals moving from one place to another, and it can take two forms: regular and irregular. Recognizing the importance of educating vulnerable groups, including children, about safe migration practices, the Giving Is Healing Foundation works to prevent human trafficking and other risks associated with irregular migration.
In 2022, Giving Is Healing Foundation partnered with the National Agency For The Prohibition Of Trafficking In Persons (NAPTIP) and Migrants as Messengers (MAM) visited Home At Last Orphanage, Ayobo Lagos. This visit aimed to educate the children about safe migration and raise awareness on the dangers of irregular migration. The goal was to empower the children with the knowledge of how to identify and avoid trafficking schemes.
Irregular migration often exploits vulnerable individuals, especially those facing economic hardships, who are lured by false promises of better opportunities elsewhere. Human traffickers exploit these vulnerabilities, coercing their victims into dangerous journeys that can lead to exploitation and abuse.
During the visit at Home At Last Orphanage Home, we engaged with the children using educational materials provided by the International Organization on Migration (IOM). These materials, including Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) resources, were tailored to the children’s understanding and aimed to impart knowledge on safe migration practices. Additionally, the Giving Is Healing Foundation donated essential food supplies to the orphanage as part of our support to them.
By educating young individuals about safe migration practices and the risks of human trafficking, the Giving Is Healing Foundation and its partners aim to empower vulnerable populations to make informed decisions about their futures. Through continued collaboration and outreach, we are dedicated to protecting individuals from the dangers of irregular migration and ensuring that every child can grow up in a safe and supportive environment.
In summary, the Giving Is Healing Foundation’s visit to Home At Last Orphanage demonstrates our commitment to promoting safe migration practices and combating human trafficking through education, awareness, and community engagement. Working with partners and stakeholders, we strive to create a safer and more secure future for all.
