Commemorating World Day Against Trafficking in Persons 2025: United to End Exploitation
On July 30, 2025, the Giving Is Healing Foundation (GIHF) joined forces with the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), the International Organization for Migration (IOM), and other stakeholders in a high-impact awareness road walk held in Ikeja, Lagos, to mark this year’s World Day Against Trafficking in Persons.
This year’s theme, “Human Trafficking is Organized Crime: End the Exploitation,” brought renewed attention to the alarming global rise in human trafficking cases and emphasized the need for stronger, united efforts in combating this crime.
An Invitation from NAPTIP, Our Esteemed Partner
The Giving Is Healing Foundation was officially invited to participate in the road walk by NAPTIP, our long-standing partner in the fight against human trafficking and irregular migration. We were honored to receive the invitation and proud to participate in this vital national campaign.
Representing GIHF on the Frontlines
Our Program Manager, Gbolahan Ayediran, represented the foundation at the road walk and walked alongside other advocates, government representatives, and international organizations. The group moved through major streets in Ikeja, distributing educational materials and engaging the public with messages that highlighted the realities and dangers of human trafficking.
“This road walk is a demonstration of unity in purpose,” said Gbolahan Ayediran.
“Tackling human trafficking requires consistent collaboration. It is not a battle any one agency or organization can fight alone. Together, we must end the exploitation and safeguard the dignity of every human life.”
Taking the Message to the Streets
The walk began at Allen Roundabout and stretched through busy areas of Ikeja. Participants carried banners and placards bearing bold messages such as:
- “Human Trafficking is a Crime Against Humanity”
- “Stop the Exploitation Now”
- “Protect the Vulnerable, Prosecute the Traffickers”
The colorful and energetic procession caught the attention of the public, sparking curiosity and engagement. Organizers paused at key points to educate pedestrians, bus drivers, traders, and commuters on how to recognize and report cases of trafficking. The collective voice of the crowd sent a clear message: No more silence. No more exploitation.
GIHF’s Continued Commitment
At the Giving Is Healing Foundation, we see every awareness event as a stepping stone toward a safer, more just society. Our mission includes promoting safe migration, empowering vulnerable communities, and supporting survivors of trafficking through psychosocial services, skills training, and community education.
This road walk was more than just a symbolic gesture; it was a call to action. A reminder that ending human trafficking requires everyone, from policymakers and NGOs to communities and individuals, to rise and act.
Moving Forward: What’s Next?
Our partnership with NAPTIP and IOM will continue to grow as we intensify our community outreach, survivor support programs, and advocacy initiatives across Nigeria. With each step we take, we draw closer to a society free from exploitation.
Join Us in the Fight Against Human Trafficking
Let’s continue to raise awareness, support survivors, and dismantle the systems that enable trafficking.
