Community Awareness on Safe Migration in Mosan Okunola LCDA, Lagos
Human trafficking and irregular migration continue to pose significant challenges to communities across Nigeria. Raising awareness at the grassroots level remains one of the most effective ways to prevent exploitation and empower individuals to make informed migration decisions.
As part of our commitment to promoting safe, orderly, and regular migration, the Giving Is Healing Foundation recently conducted a community awareness programme in Mosan Okunola Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Lagos. The outreach brought together young people for an engaging session on safe migration pathways, the realities of migration, and the risks associated with irregular migration.
During the sensitization programme, participants learned about the tactics commonly used by human traffickers, the importance of verifying migration opportunities, and the benefits of choosing legal and informed migration pathways. The interactive discussions also encouraged participants to ask questions, share their experiences, and gain practical knowledge that can help protect themselves and others within their communities.
Community-based awareness initiatives like this are essential in building resilience against human trafficking and ensuring that young people have access to accurate information before making life-changing migration decisions. By empowering individuals with knowledge, we are contributing to safer communities and reducing the vulnerabilities that traffickers often exploit. This initiative forms part of the Giving Is Healing Foundation’s ongoing efforts to promote migrant protection, community engagement, and public awareness on safe migration across Nigeria.
